I've been following your blog since before those links you posted above, and it sounds like you have legitimate reasons for wanting to switch. But, for my tastes, Linux is great for the server, and about only half-done as a desktop. That's what this post was trying to say—it's great if you can easily install server things on your desktop in Ubuntu, but it's not so great if Ubuntu isn't a desktop you'd touch with a ten-foot pole in the first place. It's possible to apt-get install the other half of them on Ubuntu, then? Also, regarding DVD Player: I'm glad to hear that it's now both easy and legal for me to watch encrypted DVDs under Ubuntu.
